John Mulder grew up in southern California and is now a resident of Brownsville
Oregon. He recieved his BFA from Oregon State University
where he studied both Painting and Printmaking. Coming from a family of
artists, John has spent most of his life involved in the arts.
Aside from painting and exhibiting nationally, he is also active in his community
where he serves on the board of his local art association and teaches both
children and adult classes in painting and drawing.
John brings his own unique style to the art scene. In his current work, he
continues to explore his personal dramas and understanding of our world though
painting and printmaking. “When I make art that is both beautiful and
interesting to me, that is when my true passion shows through.” John
says about his latest pieces, which are satirical in nature and focus social
issues.
As a fine arts painter working in acrylics, John Mulder’s use of text,
color and texture - combined with a retro flare, has developed over the years
into what he likes to call "Contemporary Pop Art."
His paintings are solely works of art. They are intended to stimulate thought
and invoke emotions. All events and characters portrayed in these representations
are either fictitious or are used fictitiously. Please enjoy them at your
leisure. John Mulder's vibrant canvases often feature the robots and toys
of yesteryear. As Mulder142 explains, "In my childhood, humanity's future
seemed so bright; the only boundaries were the ever-expanding limits of our
imaginations. I believed anything was possible. With my art, I attempt to
recapture the spirit and hope and optimism of those earlier days. Through
the use of colors and imagery, I try to invoke a sense of promise unburdened
by the weight of reality. My current fascination with toys and robots reflects
the qualities which fill me with inspiration."
